A Christmas Carol 2025 Fun Facts
For fans of The Muppet Christmas Carol
Because the director of this year's FBP production of A Christmas Carol, Martie Muldoon, is such a big fan of the The Muppet Christmas Carol movie, here are some fun facts about this wonderful film!
🎩 1. It was the first Muppet movie made after Jim Henson’s death.
Brian Henson, Jim’s son, directed it, and many fans see it as a loving tribute to his father’s legacy.
🎶 2. Michael Caine insisted on playing Scrooge “completely straight.”
He told Brian Henson he'd act as if he were performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company, not with puppets. That seriousness is a big reason the movie works so well!
🦃 3. The "Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come" terrified real children.
That tall, ominous, silent figure is genuinely scary—even today. Many kids (and adults!) list it as their first “too spooky for comfort” Muppet moment.
💰 4. Gonzo plays Charles Dickens — and does it accurately!
Surprisingly, much of Gonzo’s narration is taken directly from Dickens’ original text. It’s one of the most faithful movie adaptations of the novel.
🎵 5. A key song was removed from the theatrical release.
“When Love Is Gone,” Belle’s breakup song, was cut for being too sad. The VHS version restored it; the DVD/Blu-ray often didn’t; and the recent 4K restoration finally puts it back in the film.
🐸 6. Kermit’s costume was historically accurate.
His tiny green jacket and top hat were based on illustrations from the first editions of Dickens’ story.
🥕 7. The film nearly featured Muppets as all major roles.
Early drafts had Miss Piggy as all three Christmas ghosts! Thankfully, they went with the more haunting (and hilarious) ghosts we know today.
☃️ 8. The sets were purposely built “small.”
Because Muppets generally operate waist-high, they built streets and buildings elevated several feet off the ground so puppeteers could work below.
